Thomas York was done listening to his sanctimonious father and living the obligatory life mandated by his name. Ignited by a scotch-infused epiphany, he devises a plan that will free him from his familial shackles, make him richer, and knock his father down in the process. As current CEO of the elite family-owned financial institution, Thomas embeds his strategy into a charitable giving campaign under the guise of strengthening the corporate brand. As he does with most of his business deals, he delegates the execution of his strategic plan to his staff - only in this case, no one but Thomas knows they are putting a plan of retribution and escape in motion.

Still basking in the afterglow of the enchanting St. Valentine's gala they delivered, co-workers Mara Ionescu and Nicole Johnson are jarred back to reality when significant monetary shortfalls are discovered in select client accounts. Having grown up in communist Romania Mara learned early in life to trust her gut, which was now telling her something was going on. How had funds been removed from accounts without any traceable activity? Where did the money go? Where was Thomas? And the one question that especially wrenched her gut - did this have anything to do with the gala that had her and Nicole's names all over it?
